How to Edit an EchoWord

Learn how to update and modify existing EchoWords, including changing status, actions, phone numbers, and expiration settings.

Editing EchoWords allows you to update status, modify actions, change phone number associations, or adjust expiration settings. Note that the EchoWord code itself cannot be changed after creation.

Accessing the Edit Form

  1. Navigate to your campaign's EchoWords page
  2. Find the EchoWord you want to edit in the list
  3. Click the Edit button (pencil icon) or click on the EchoWord code

The edit form will open with all current EchoWord information pre-filled.

What You Can Edit

Status

  • Toggle between "Live" and "Paused"
  • Pause EchoWords temporarily without deleting
  • Reactivate paused EchoWords instantly
  • Changes take effect immediately

Phone Number

  • Change which phone number the EchoWord is associated with
  • Switch from specific phone to all campaign phones
  • Update to a different specific phone number
  • Useful when reorganizing campaigns

Autoresponder

  • Change the autoresponder assigned to the EchoWord
  • Remove the autoresponder (set to "None")
  • Select a different autoresponder from the campaign
  • Preview changes in real-time

Contact Groups

  • Add or remove contact groups
  • Change which groups contacts are added to
  • Update group assignments for existing EchoWords
  • Multiple groups can be selected

Expiration Date and Time

  • Set or update expiration date
  • Add or modify expiration time
  • Remove expiration (clear date/time)
  • Extend expiration for ongoing campaigns

What You Cannot Edit

EchoWord Code

  • The code itself cannot be changed after creation
  • If you need a different code, create a new EchoWord
  • This ensures consistency and prevents confusion

Editing Steps

Step 1: Make Your Changes

  • Update status if needed
  • Modify phone number association
  • Change autoresponder selection
  • Update contact group assignments
  • Adjust expiration settings
  • Use the preview panel to see autoresponder changes

Step 2: Review Your Changes

  • Check that all settings are correct
  • Verify autoresponder preview looks good
  • Ensure contact groups are appropriate
  • Confirm expiration settings if used

Step 3: Save Your Changes

  • Click Update to save your changes
  • You'll see a success message confirming the update
  • Changes take effect immediately

Important: Changes to EchoWords take effect immediately. Any new matches will use the updated settings.

When to Edit EchoWords

Status Management

  • Pause EchoWords for inactive campaigns
  • Reactivate for seasonal or recurring campaigns
  • Temporarily disable for maintenance
  • Control when EchoWords are active

Campaign Updates

  • Update autoresponders with new information
  • Change contact groups as audience segments evolve

Impact of Changes

Immediate Effect

  • Status changes apply immediately

Pausing an EchoWord

  1. Edit the EchoWord
  2. Toggle status to "Paused"
  3. Save changes
  4. EchoWord stops processing matches immediately

Updating Autoresponder

  1. Edit the EchoWord
  2. Select a new autoresponder
  3. Preview the new message
  4. Save changes
  5. New matches receive the updated autoresponder

Changing Contact Groups

  1. Edit the EchoWord
  2. Update contact group selections
  3. Save changes
  4. New opt-ins are added to updated groups

Extending Expiration

  1. Edit the EchoWord
  2. Update expiration date/time
  3. Save changes
  4. EchoWord remains active until new expiration
